Family Health Centers is a collection of nonprofit community health centers in Louisville, KY focused on providing access to high-quality primary and preventive care services to individuals without regard to the ability to pay. Their sliding fee scale makes care affordable to all and offers supportive services to address other barriers to health care. Their website however lacked clear pathways or structure, limiting their ability to provide the care and support they are capable of.
The Challenge
The healthcare system can be overwhelming, complicated, and scary. These challenges are amplified for a client base faced with additional obstacles such as tech literacy and language barriers. Finding help is often met with feelings of judgment and criticism. The mission of Family Health Centers was critical however, so we worked together to design and develop a website that mirrored their healthcare for all philosophy, making it as easy as possible to spread their impact across the community.
The Approach
Clean user journeys and copy are kept front and center to provide a website that is approachable, clear, and informative. Iconography was used to guide users throughout regardless of literacy, and was paired with simple, direct copy and a translation tool allowing for a streamlined experience for a wide range of technology and web experience levels. From the very first interaction, the Family Health Centers website offers a warm invitation out of a cold, complicated healthcare world.
The Results
With this new design, users spent more time on the site and visited more pages. Analytics demonstrated success as the page visits and web journeys prove that the primary audience, current and prospective clients, are using the site as intended, as the number of actions dramatically increased.
